Bukhara State Medical Institute (BSMI) – A Legacy of Excellence in Medical Education

Bukhara State Medical Institute (BSMI), named after Abu Ali ibn Sino, is a prestigious institution dedicated to excellence in medical education. Established in October 1990, the institute officially received its name in March 1991 from the Presidium of the Bukhara Regional Council of People’s Deputies. Over the years, BSMI has expanded its academic offerings, ensuring high-quality medical training across multiple disciplines. Currently, the institute operates with four faculties and 53 departments, offering nine Bachelor’s degree programs, 30 Master’s degree specialties, clinical residency in over 36 disciplines, and 20 joint double-degree programs across all three levels of education. With a student body of over 9,180 individuals and a faculty of 648 members, including 97 Professors holding Doctor of Science degrees, 253 PhD holders and Associate Professors, and 100 Senior Lecturers and Assistants, BSMI fosters an enriching academic environment.
The institute takes pride in its multilingual and international education system, offering instruction in Uzbek, Russian, English, and Turkish, making it an accessible choice for international students. The curriculum is designed to meet modern educational standards, ensuring a structured approach to medical training. BSMI provides specialized training in various fields, including General Medicine (6 years), Medical Pedagogy (6 years), Pediatrics (6 years), Dentistry (5 years), Medical Prevention (5 years), Medical Biology (4 years), Higher Nursing (3 years), Traditional Medicine (4 years), MBBS (5 years + 1-year internship), and Pharmacy (5 years).
